A Round table within the project “Clean energy for clean air“ was organized on 16.01 in Hotel Karpos, Skopje

Within the project “Clean Energy for Clean Air“, a Round Table - “Situation, Challenges and Perspectives for solving the air pollution related problematics in the Skopje Planning Region - Proposals” was held on 16.01 in Hotel Karpos, Skopje

Opening speaches on the event were held by Ms. Ana Petrovska - State Secretary at MОEPP, Mr. Nehri Emrula - Director of the Energy Agency of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Stefan Bogoev - Mayor of Karposh Municipality and Ms. Tea Teveva, project coordinator. On the Round Table participated representatives from civil society organizations Eko Svest, REC, Reporters for human rights, representatives from the municipalities of Karposh, Butel and Shuto Orizari, as well as representatives from educational institutions: SGGU “Zdravko Cvetkovski“ and the Faculty of Forest Sciences, Landscape Architecture and Eco Engineering at UKIM.

The focus on the Roundtable was the current situation regarding the air pollution in the residential sector in the SPR and the opportunities for implementation of improvement measures which would contribute in creating a healthier environment.

In the second part of the session, the challenges and perspectives for solving air pollution problems were addressed. In this part a representative from the business sector - “Agrometal“ presentedtheir new innovative product - a chimney filter for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Igor Pancevski - EBRD expert presentated the opportunities that the GEFF program offers and pointed to the possibility of using green energy through banks` affordable credit programs. Mr. Zdravko Stefanovski, energy efficiency expert presented a newly started project related to creation of applicable energy efficiency programs for so-called MABs (multiapartment buildings).

An active collaboration between all sectors - the civil society, business sector, educational department, the local government and the relevant institutions is required, so that all the proposed measures can be implemented which will result in higher knowledge and mindset of the citizens in the Skopje planning region for the need and the benefits of implementing EE measures in their homes and the use of clean energy.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia through the Program for financing the program activities of associations and foundations for 2019.
